Prof.?Akshra argues that beauty salons are complex spaces for women, simultaneously reinforcing patriarchal beauty standards and offering opportunities for social interaction and resistance. While they can promote financial independence, they also uphold capitalist and patriarchal systems. However, they are not solely oppressive; instances of resistance emerge within these spaces, making them both sites of liberation and constraint. Rather, the space of the beauty parlor can be located at a crossroad, which is best captured by Islamic feminism.
