REPORT ON WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY PROGRAMME

On 24th March 2026. health screening and awareness programme was organized on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day for factory workers at Armour Kartons, Badagabettu, in collaboration with PHC, Hirebettu. The programme was conducted by the MCON 2nd Year M.Sc. Nursing students and faculty of the Department of Community Health Nursing under the guidance of Dr. Malathi G. Nayak. The programme was held from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on 24th March 2026 with the objective of promoting awareness regarding tuberculosis and providing basic health screening services to factory workers. Aligning with the global agenda, the initiative directly supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, recognizing that good health is a crucial component of sustainable development.

A total of 98 workers participated in the programme, of whom 34 were females and 64 were males. The programme included general health assessment, blood pressure screening, GRBS testing, BMI calculation, and screening procedures related to communicable diseases. Of the 98 participants, 47 workers underwent GRBS testing; four had elevated blood sugar levels above 140 mg/dL. During blood pressure screening, 9 workers were identified with high blood pressure. In addition, Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated for the participants, revealing that 24 workers were overweight and 12 workers were underweight, and were referred to PHC Hirebettu.

As part of communicable disease screening and early detection measures, malaria slides were prepared, and sputum samples were collected from symptomatic workers for further evaluation and diagnosis. These activities were carried out by ASHA worker to facilitate early identification of infectious conditions and to strengthen disease prevention efforts among the working population.

The awareness and educational session formed an important part of the programme. The event was addressed by Dr. Narasimha Nayak, who highlighted the importance of worker health and preventive care. Tuberculosis prevention and awareness education was delivered by Ms. Pritha, who explained the causes, symptoms, modes of transmission, preventive measures, and the importance of early diagnosis and adherence to treatment in tuberculosis. The session raised awareness among the workers regarding tuberculosis and other health issues, emphasizing the importance of timely health check-ups and healthy lifestyle practices.

It served as a valuable initiative to promote occupational health, raise awareness of tuberculosis, and identify individuals at risk. Overall, the World Tuberculosis Day Programme was informative, beneficial, and successful in addressing both communicable and non-communicable health concerns among factory workers.

On 31st March, 2026, a street play was conducted by the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing in Collaboration with Lions Club Moodubelle at the premises of Moodubelle Panchayat. Lion Devdas Hebbar and Former Taluk Panchayat President welcomed the gathering. A street play was performed by IV semester BSc Nursing students from 10.30 to 11.00 am. It focused on the symptoms of tuberculosis, modes of transmission, signs and symptoms, collaborative management, and its prevention. Dr Shalini G Nayak, enhanced public awareness by highlighting the prevalence of TB and its mortality burden. The?participants' questions were effectively addressed with clear, informative responses. The program concluded by extending gratitude to the Panchayat for granting permission and to the Lions Club President for facilitating the street play. Approximately 40 people benefited from the programme, contributing to improved awareness and health literacy, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).
